Only 2 slots for ram

my pc REFUSES to boot with 1 stick of ram, in ANY slot it will only boot with 2 OCZ 1GB modules in the 2 farthest slots from the CPU any other slots in any combination, it will not boot if i put in different memory in the same slots as the OCZ, it will not boot
